Kelemér, a Hungarian village located at the base of the Northern Central Mountains, has obtained geographical protection for its lamb product. The lamb can only be produced using ewes mated with Ile-de-France or Suffolk rams and reared within the village's borders. The lambs must be slaughtered before they are 120 days old and weigh no more than 40 kilograms. The unique quality of Keleméri lamb is attributed to the region's microclimate, soil, and feeding and husbandry practices. The meat is known for its spicy taste, crumbly texture, fresh color, lack of tallow, and the marbling of its fat. This product has joined the list of 1,606 agricultural products under EU protection.
