Kenya is set to begin exporting fresh avocados to China, following a four-year pest risk analysis by the phytosanitary inspection and quarantine departments of both countries. This development comes after a previous agreement in April 2019 that allowed only frozen avocados from Kenya to be exported due to fruit fly concerns. With Kenya being the continent's largest avocado producer and exporter, this move is expected to boost its agricultural sector significantly. The export of the Fuerte variety will commence on March 18, and the Hass variety on the same day in March. Additionally, Kenya is taking steps to ensure that fresh avocados exported to China meet China's phytosanitary laws, health and safety standards, and are free of quarantine pests of concern to China.
