Kenya's tea export earnings experienced an 18% increase in the first half of 2024, reaching 102.4 billion shillings (about 795 million U.S. dollars), according to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics. This surge was largely due to a recovery in key markets following the global economic slowdown caused by the Russia-Ukraine crisis. The country exported 320,563 metric tons of tea, a significant increase from the same period in 2023. The Kenya Tea Board credits the rise in shipments to the recovery of key markets and the diversification of markets, including expanding into China. Tea, tourism, and horticulture are among Kenya's top foreign exchange earners.
