In Ordu, kiwi producers have commenced their harvest as the fruit has reached maturity. The Ordu kiwi, which holds a geographical indication from the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office, is a vital income source alongside hazelnuts. The harvest, attended by Governor Muammer Erol and Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Kemal Yılmaz, underscores the fruit's economic significance. With state support, kiwi production has grown since its inception 30 years ago, and this year's yield is expected to be 8,600 tons, contributing around 300 million liras to the local economy. Known for its unique aroma and long storage life, the Ordu kiwi's future harvests are projected to surpass 12,000 tons. Producer Tarık Tercan, who started cultivating kiwi four years ago, plans to boost his yield from 3 tons to 20 tons in the coming years.
