The Konya Metropolitan Municipality, under the leadership of Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay, is taking steps to boost agricultural production and diversity in Konya, aiming to add value to the local and national economy. The municipality has distributed chickpea seeds to farmers as part of the 'Expansion of Chickpea Cultivation in Dry Farming Areas Project', with the goal to promote the cultivation of high-value, water-efficient crops in dry regions. Since 2014, the municipality has been providing agricultural support, offering a 50 percent grant for certified chickpea seeds in various districts like Meram, Selçuklu, and Karatay. This initiative has already supported 108,675 kilos of chickpea seeds distributed to producers, covering 7,245 acres of land, and has received positive feedback from the beneficiary farmers.
