The Korea Fisheries Resources Agency, in collaboration with the private company Pharma Research Co., Ltd., is visiting the site of a new utilization project for salmon by-products to strengthen public-private cooperation for the high-value utilization of fishery by-products. The agency has been promoting a private cooperation project for the new utilization of salmon by-products since 2012, over a period of 13 years, and has been seeking ways to repurpose by-products such as fish bodies and gonads, which are generated during the management of approximately 3,500 female salmon annually at the East Sea Headquarters' East Sea Life Resources Center, instead of simply disposing of them. In this process, the agency has signed a business agreement with the bio-company Pharma Research Co., Ltd., which has strengths in developing pharmaceutical and cosmetic ingredients, to extract domestic salmon gonad raw materials.
