5.5.13 An octopus trap (1) is made by creating a cylindrical frame with an iron bar approximately 9mm in diameter and covering it with PE net fabric with a mesh size larger than 35mm. The trap has three entrances on its side. Bait is placed inside the trap to lure and catch the target organisms. Approximately 125 traps are grouped into one set (frame). The set is submerged in the fishing ground for 7 to 30 days. Departure occurs at dawn, with the vessel advancing while deploying and retrieving the traps. Captured octopuses are transported in live crates. Deployment of one set takes about 10 minutes, and retrieval takes about 40 minutes. The shape and size of the octopus traps can vary depending on the region and the fishing vessel.
