The Korean Trade Promotion Agency (KOTRA) has reported a surge in the popularity of Korean dried seaweed and seasoned seaweed in Vietnam, with the country's edible seaweed market trend showing a 40% share of Korean seaweed imports as of 2020. This makes Korea the leading importer of Vietnamese edible seaweed for the fifth year in a row. The rise in demand is linked to the growing interest in Korean health foods and the influence of K-pop. Despite the preference for low-priced seaweed, the market is expected to expand, particularly in the seasoned snack segment, which has seen annual growth rates exceeding 10% in the last five years. This growth is driven by diverse consumer groups, including teenagers and office workers, who enjoy seaweed snacks as a beverage companion.
