The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security in Malaysia supports the buffalo production project in Sarawak

LAWAS: The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) supports the efforts of the Sarawak government in advancing dairy and buffalo meat production projects in the Meragang area, in the northern part of the state. Its minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said the effort was seen to be able to increase the supply of local meat thus ensuring the country was able to reduce its dependence on imported meat. "Malaysia is still far behind in local meat production with the country now only able to meet 15 percent of needs. "A total of 85 percent of the meat supply needs to be imported, this shows the urgent need to increase local meat production, especially buffalo and beef cattle," he said when speaking at the KPKM Leisure event with Ranchers, Farmers and Fishermen here last night.
