Western Australia's crop potential for the upcoming harvest has been downgraded due to a lack of spring rain in grazing regions, according to the Grain Industry Association of Western Australia (GIWA). The total tonnage is now expected to be about 16,858,000 tonnes, down from 17,438,000 tonnes, with some areas potentially producing as little as 15 million tonnes. The most significant impact has been on wheat, with estimates dropping from 5,050,000 tonnes to 4,450,000 tonnes, while barley and canola remain steady or show a slight increase. The lack of rain has also affected barley and canola in medium and low rainfall areas, and lupin crops have benefits for following crops but may not deliver a profit this year due to a lack of pods.
