Zimbabwe is facing challenges in commercializing hemp farming due to a lack of sufficient information on the plant and a need for clear policies. The Zimbabwe Industrial Hemp Trust is advocating for the best policies from the government to address the legal and regulatory environment and the knowledge gap. Local financing and market access are also challenges for local hemp farmers. The Hemp Carbon Standard offers a way to generate carbon credits through growing industrial hemp, which can be sold on international carbon markets. The standard uses advanced technologies to measure, report, and verify carbon sequestration, and recognizes industrial hemp as a climate-smart crop that captures carbon dioxide from the atmosphere during its growth cycle.
