The sad scenario left by some salmon farming companies in southern Chile was the trigger for Carmen Morandé, a Chilean designer and artisan, to start the Neta Upcycle Design project in Santiago. In her country, from Puerto Montt southwards, the salmon farming companies, which keep moving, leave behind remnants of supplies and ropes. These ropes are the raw material with which she proposes to reuse the product and, with environmental awareness, to mitigate polluting practices. The dirty water, the abandoned ropes, and the animals around entangled in them, were enough factors to understand that something had to be done, at least from her occupation. “In 2019 I started this recycling project that allows me to design with meaning and, in passing, help, contribute to caring for and preserving the environment through my craft.
