(Daejeon=Yonhap News) Reporter Park Joo-young = The total production value of forest products last year was reported to be 7.37 trillion won, a 3.5% (2,487 billion won) increase from the previous year (7.12 trillion won).
The Korea Forest Service announced the results of the "2024 Forest Products Production Survey" on the 31st.
By item, pure timber (the amount of trees grown in the forest over one year) increased by 8.6% year-on-year to 2.95 trillion won, showing the highest increase rate, while earth and stone products such as natural stone and crushed stone increased by 5.0% to 1.41 trillion won.
In the case of short-term income forest products, medicinal plants such as omija and ma increased by 3.8% and 3.5%, respectively, while wild vegetables (-9.3%) and mushrooms (-4.1%) production decreased, resulting in a total production value of 2.45 trillion won, a 0.5% decrease from the previous year (2.47 trillion won).
By region, Gyeongbuk was the highest in the country with 1.38 trillion won, followed by Gangwon with 1.35 trillion won, Gyeongnam with 955.6 billion won, and Jeonnam with 819.5 billion won.
The forest products production survey was designated as a national approved statistic in 1976. It surveys the production volume and production value of 145 items of 14 types of forest products, including short-term income forest products such as fruit, medicinal plants, and wild vegetables, and pure timber, timber, and earth and stone products, and is used for establishing regional forest product supply and forestry policies.
