Farmers in Dobrudja are experiencing a paradoxical situation with lavender oil production, as they have seen a significant increase in yield this year, up to 12 kg/ha, but are faced with extremely low prices, the lowest since 2018. The price has dropped dramatically from a high of 200-280 BGN/kg in 2018 to 50-55 BGN/kg currently, with traders offering as low as 30-35 BGN/kg during the campaign. The market is uncertain, and only organic producers are finding some stability. However, the high extraction costs mean that at these prices, it is not financially viable for farmers to grow lavender, leading to a decrease in lavender cultivation. Out of over 90,000 decares in the Dobrichka region, 69,000 have already been harvested, and it is anticipated that the harvest will be completed soon.
