Researcher Lee Young-gyu from the Goryeong Agricultural Research Institute has developed a method for diagnosing potato yolk spores, a disease that could have potentially devastated Korea's potato industry. His research prevented an estimated annual damage of 290 billion won by eradicating the spores. He also developed the first antiviral drug for potato virus treatment and practical biological control technology for half-wilt disease. Currently, he is leading the 'Highland Cabbage Research Lab' to address the supply and demand instability of highland cabbage.
