Lettuce and okra prices drop, but passion fruit rises in Mato Grosso do Sul

The milder weather after weeks of intense cold has had direct effects on the production of vegetables in Mato Grosso do Sul. At CEASA/MS (Central Supply Stations of Mato Grosso do Sul), lettuce registered a significant drop of 12.5% in price this week, according to data released by the Market Supply Division (Dimer). The greater availability of the product is linked to the increase in local supply, as a large part of the lettuce production is cultivated within the state itself, reducing logistics costs and strengthening regional farmers. Another item that showed a decline was okra, a typical Mato Grosso do Sul vegetable, whose price fell 10% compared to the previous week. The improvement in weather also favored this crop, which has a strong tradition among local producers and has a high turnover both in wholesale and retail.
