The Ministry of Agriculture in Liberia, with funding from the World Bank, has awarded contracts to 10 smallholder farmers and food processors as part of the MOA Smallholder Agriculture Transformation Agribusinesses Revitalization Project (STAR-P) in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The project aims to boost locally grown food production of rice and cassava for vulnerable citizens and institutions, and has received US$10.5 million from the World Bank. The beneficiaries include various agribusinesses and corporations, and the Minister of Agriculture has committed to empowering more agribusinesses to mitigate the impact of the pandemic on agriculture and food security.
