Lithuania's Ministry of Agriculture is increasing controls on imported vegetables to prevent illegal importation from Russia, following complaints from local growers about cucumbers and tomatoes from Hosia being smuggled in via Belarus and Poland with forged documents. The ministry will conduct more thorough checks on the origin of fresh fruits and vegetables and may involve an Austrian laboratory in this process. The ministry also supports pan-European measures to limit imports from Russia and has previously called on the European Commission to consider limiting the import of food products from Russia and Belarus.
