In 2020, the southern enclave of Santa Fe, Argentina, ranked as the world's second-largest agro-export port node, with a total dispatched volume of 70 million tons. This places it behind the US customs district of New Orleans, Louisiana, and the Brazilian port of Santos. The region's ports are crucial for exporting products included in the soy, corn, wheat, and barley complexes. However, a decrease in shipments from the south of Santa Fe was the key factor in New Orleans surpassing Gran Rosario in 2020. This decrease was attributed to the historical downfall of the Paraná River and union conflicts, especially in the oil industry.
