Vicente López Navarro, a winemaker in Quintanar del Rey (Cuenca) told us in the latest broadcast of AGROPOPULAR on September 27th, how the grape harvest is going in this area.
Vicente López indicated that it is already in the final stretch, "there will be about one more week." The predominant varieties in the area are bobal and garnacha tintorera.
Regarding production, in terms of quantity, López explained that "production has dropped quite a bit. There are cooperatives that will have 10% less, but the average is between 15% and 20%, and some even 35% less." In this area, the reduction is mainly due to hail, he affirmed.
However, the quality of the grapes this year is very good, "the degree of ripeness is also adequate."
As for the prices, he indicated that "better than last year because there is no grape, but not to get excited either."
