Ireland’s Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Charlie McConalogue, successfully secured an increased Mackerel quota share for the Irish fleet after negotiations at the EU Fisheries Council of Ministers. The new permanent allocation of Mackerel quota is worth approximately €3 million annually for Ireland’s fishers, although it does not fully replace all the quota that has been lost. The EU’s negotiations with the UK and Norway concluded in advance of December Council, providing stability for Ireland’s fishers and resulting in increases for important commercial stocks.
