Sugar mills in India are projecting a higher sugar output of around 12.2-12.5 million tonnes, compared to the 11.7 million tonnes forecast by the Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA). So far, 202 mills have crushed 63.5 million tons of sugarcane and owe farmers INR 151.66 billion. Most mills have regularly paid farmers, with INR 132.76 billion paid and INR 22.97 billion still pending. However, mills are facing challenges beyond production drops, including concerns about crop drying due to warmer temperatures in areas like Solapur and Marathawada, as farmers worry about the need for adequate water supply until the end of the season.
