The Malaysian Pineapple Industry Board (MPIB) has announced plans to expand the country's pineapple cultivation area from 17,000 to 20,000 hectares by 2024. This is part of an effort to increase pineapple production from 583,543 tons to 700,000 tons, with a focus on technology and automation applications. A new variety of pineapple, SG1, will be introduced, which has a shorter growth period and larger fruits. Additionally, the board aims to increase pineapple exports by 200 containers this year.
