Turkey: Maltese plum harvest started in Mersin

Harvest has started for Maltese plum (loquat), which is grown in many gardens in Mersin and is referred to as 'yellow gold' because it is low in cost. First quality loquat, which found buyers from the garden for 40-45 TL per kilogram, made its producer happy. In Mersin, one of the important centers in Turkey's fresh vegetable and fruit production, harvests are starting one after the other due to the increasing air temperatures in recent days. Finally, the fruits ripened early in the open loquat gardens, especially in Mersin, where the air temperature increased. The harvest of the loquat fruits, which are densely planted in gardens in Erdemli district, has started to turn yellow. Workers entering the gardens carefully collect the fruits, sort them into classes according to quality, and send them to the market in crates.
