Mandatory marking of deer will allow the development of reindeer husbandry in the Russian Federation

Mandatory marking of deer bred at reindeer herding enterprises will allow not only to keep records of them, but also to predict the volumes of meat coming to markets, reindeer skins and antlers valuable for pharmaceuticals, as well as to separate reindeer ethnic farmsteads from full-fledged commercial enterprises. This will contribute to the development of reindeer husbandry in Russia, experts, scientists and representatives of indigenous minorities (IPN) expressed this opinion to TASS. Mandatory labeling and registration of farm animals has been introduced in Russia since September 2023. On March 1, 2024, these requirements came into force and affected large and small cattle, poultry, pigs, horses, camels, deer, rabbits, bees and fur-bearing animals. The marking gives an animal or group of animals a unique identifier that is valid for life.
