From 2016 to 2020, Australia experienced a slight growth in tea imports, but in 2020, there was a 6.3% decrease due to the Covid-19 pandemic, with the total value of imports being $102.25 million. The average price per ton of imported tea increased by 3.3% in 2020. In January 2021, Australia's tea imports surged by 26.8% in volume and 42.5% in value compared to the previous year, with the average price per ton also rising by 12.4%. The majority of the tea imported was from India, Sri Lanka, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, and China, with Vietnam contributing a very small proportion. The types of tea imported included black and green tea, with a significant increase in the volume and value of green tea imports from Vietnam in January 2021.
