The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply of Brazil has declared Acre state as a quarantine zone due to the detection of the 'Moniliophthora roreri' fungus, causing Moniliasis in cocoa and cupuaçu plants. This fungus, previously unseen in Brazil, was found in Cruzeiro do Sul. The quarantine aims to prevent the pest's spread through a ban on the transit of vegetable materials from Acre to other Brazilian states. The measure, in effect until the pest's containment and eradication strategies are set, was implemented to safeguard cocoa and cupuaçu cultivation areas. The public is urged to report any sightings of the pest in other regions. Currently, South America is combating the pest in Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Bolivia, and Peru.
