Massachusetts officials have declared the start of "Massachusetts Cranberry Month" to promote local cranberry farming and encourage support for cranberry growers. The state, home to over 13,000 acres of cranberry bogs, is the leading producer of cranberries in the country. The industry generates $1.7 billion in economic activity and supports over 6,400 jobs. The Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources (MDAR) is investing over $5.6 million to modernize cranberry bogs and promote sustainable practices. The initiative aims to inspire people to buy locally grown cranberries to help sustain the local economy and agricultural heritage.
