Iran has experienced a 15% increase in caviar exports from Mazandaran province, with a total of 1,029 kg valued at $532,000 since the start of the current Iranian year. The main export destinations were the UK, Qatar, Azerbaijan, Russia, and the UAE. The province also saw a 37% increase in seafood exports until December 2020, but a decrease due to the closure of export terminals. Mazandaran is the hub for farmed seafood production in Iran, with over 3,450 aquaculture farms. The province produced 2,500 tons of sturgeon meat and 10 tons of farmed caviar in the previous year. Due to the declining sturgeon population and the ban on their fishing, Iran has signed an agreement to found the Iran National Caviar Museum in Kiashahr, northern Gilan Province, to promote international collaboration in caviar-related issues.
