Despite facing challenges such as natural disasters, epidemics, and high material prices, the seafood industry in the Mekong Delta has managed to complete a significant portion of its target plan. Tra Vinh has harvested nearly 200,000 tons of seafood, achieving 85% of its plan, and has raised over 1.5 billion tiger shrimp seed and 5.7 billion white shrimp. Tien Giang has also seen growth in aquaculture, with an increase in output and farming area. However, the industry also faces challenges such as disease management, high investment, and limited use of advanced technologies. The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is advising farmers to temporarily cease stocking brackish water shrimp and is providing instructions on disease prevention and treatment.
