French melon production is expected to decrease by 10% in the 2024 campaign due to unfavorable weather conditions last spring. The delay in growth, disrupted pollination, and increased health pressure for the melons resulted from the rain, low temperatures, and lack of sunshine. This has led to a peak in production only occurring after mid-July, and consumer enthusiasm being slowed down by the weather, causing a 7% decrease in melon prices in June. Additionally, the areas used for melon production in France have declined by 2%, totaling 12,518 hectares, largely due to a 4% decrease in outdoor cultivated areas in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region.
