Mentan: Illegal Rice and Sugar Imports Prosecuted Before Landing in Batam

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman stated that rice and illegal sugar imports have been acted upon before docking in Batam, Riau Islands, as a commitment of the government to maintain food sovereignty. Amran said his party showed decisive action against the entry of illegal rice, after previously sealing 250 tons of illegal rice in Sabang, Aceh, now his party together with other related parties sealed 40.4 tons of illegal rice in Batam. "The ship carrying the rice had not even fully docked at Tanjung Sengkuang Port when officers moved to secure the entire cargo on Monday (24/11/2025) night," said the Minister of Agriculture in a press conference in Jakarta, Tuesday (25/11/2025).
