The European Parliament has approved an updated bill integrating the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tuna (ICCAT) recommendations into EU law. The legislation, which received 568 votes in favour, includes a multiannual management plan for bluefin tuna and mandates EU countries to enhance data collection on catches of different species and report it annually. Countries with a bluefin tuna quota are also required to establish a monitoring, control and inspection plan. The bill now awaits the Council's approval before becoming law.
