The avocado industry in Mexico faces challenges due to the saturation of the U.S. market, its main export destination. Despite an abundant harvest in the Aztec country, the market is oversaturated with products from other countries, such as Peru, which in 2024 consolidated itself as the second-largest global fresh avocado exporter, after the Aztec country. According to a Milenio report, despite the excellent quality of the harvest, Mexican avocado producers have been forced to sell off their product. Currently, the price of a 10-kilogram box of avocado has fallen to $14.20, which is equivalent to approximately $1.42 per kilo. Although this price is very low, producers prefer to sell at a loss to avoid having their product remain unsold.
