Mexico displaces Spain as the world's leading watermelon exporter in volume

(Agraria.pe) In 2023, Mexico displaced Spain from the first position in the ranking of the largest world exporters of watermelon by volume, after Spain unseated Mexico from that place in 2017. However, in terms of value, Spain does maintain first place by managing to export its watermelons at a higher price than Mexico. This is indicated by the report prepared by Hortoinfo in which it makes its calculations based on the primary figures obtained through the Statistics Division of the United Nations (UN), COMTRADE, using the code 080711 (Fresh watermelons) of the Integrated Tariff of the European Communities – TARIC (Tariff Integrated of the European Communities). Until 2017, Mexico exported a greater volume of watermelon than Spain, but in that same year Spanish exports reached a greater volume than Mexican exports, until in 2023 Mexican exports have surpassed Spanish exports in volume, thus taking the scepter as world's largest exporter of watermelon by volume.
