The article outlines the strategic initiative by the Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development in Mexico to enhance agricultural production and competitiveness through the implementation of the National Seed 2020-2024 program (PNS 2020-2024). This program aims to provide high-quality seeds to Mexican farmers, encompassing both improved and native varieties, in an effort to combat inflation and scarcity as per the Opening Agreement Against Inflation and Scarcity (APECIC). The program also includes initiatives to increase the production of quality improved seeds and native seeds, strengthen research, and improve the state's oversight of seed production and use. In 2021, Mexico saw significant production increases using certified improved seeds, primarily in wheat, corn, potatoes, and oats crops. The program also offers financial support for oilseed cultivation and emphasizes the importance of collaboration to achieve self-sufficiency in food production.
