Mexico's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is working to diversify the country's agri-food markets due to a growth trend in international agri-food trade since 1994. In 2019, Mexico exported agrifood products worth $39,413 million with a historical surplus of $10,661 million. The country is looking to expand its trade with the European Union, Canada, the United States, and the rest of the American countries, as well as the Asia-Pacific region. It also aims to review and improve tariff preferences in the agri-food and fisheries sector with Japan and start free trade agreement negotiations with South Korea. Additionally, Mexico is focusing on sanitary protocols and certifications, especially for meat, in the Middle East.
