Michoacán, Mexico is a major producer of citrus fruits, accounting for nearly 28% of the country's lemon production and the second largest producer of grapefruit. The state produces over 725 thousand tons of lemons in 30 municipalities and exports to eight countries, including Malaysia and the United States. Under the Sustainable Agriculture Program, lemon producers have seen up to an 80% increase in production. Michoacán also grows grapefruit in seven municipalities, covering 5,047 hectares and producing 71,243 tons, which is exported to seven countries, including France. The state has seen a significant increase in grapefruit production in the past four years, with the value doubling from 109 million to over 206 million pesos.
