The Peruvian Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation is working to eradicate the fruit fly pest that affects family farming producers across the country. The initiative, in coordination with the National Agrarian Health Service, has already benefited nearly 71,000 farmers and improved the health of over 143,000 hectares of fruit and vegetable crops. The eradication of the fruit fly will enable the marketing of fruits in both national and international markets, bolstering food security, the local economy, and promoting sustainable agriculture. The Mosca IV Project, launched in 2019, aims to complete the eradication stage by 2024.
