Midagri: per capita consumption of pork in Peru would reach 15 kilos by 2030

(Agraria.pe) In 2024, pork consumption in Peru reached 11 kilos per person per year - when 5 years ago it was only 3.5 kilos - and by 2030 it is expected to reach 15 kilos per capita. This was pointed out by the specialist from the General Directorate of Livestock Development (DGDG) of the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri), Enrique Gutiérrez, who highlighted that in our country there are more than 600 thousand producers (small, medium, and large) dedicated to pig farming. He emphasized that to increase pork consumption in our country, it is necessary to carry out awareness campaigns, boost production, and improve market access for small and medium producers. In this regard, he indicated that Midagri has an agreement with the Peruvian Association of Pork Producers (Asoporci) to promote pork through the institutionalization of celebrations such as the Peruvian Chicharrón Day (third Saturday of June), Pork Adobo Day (first Sunday of August), and Stick Pig Day ...
