Brazil: Minas Gerais production of sorghum grows 84% and is expected to reach 1.2 million tons

Minas Gerais sorghum production is expected to reach 1.2 million tons in the 2022/2023 harvest, with growth of almost 84% compared to the previous harvest. The result is motivated by the increase in planted area and productivity, favorable climate and greater use of inputs in crops. Sorghum is a grain that can replace corn in the composition of the feed, without compromising the animal's performance. In the analysis of the superintendent of Innovation and Agricultural Economy of the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Seapa), Feliciano Nogueira de Oliveira, the increase in the cultivated area is, in part, due to the migration of areas that were previously cultivated with second-crop corn. “Sorghum has been a good option for producers, especially when the second harvest corn planting window is reduced.
