Brazil's Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) has imposed a self-embargo on chicken meat exports due to a Newcastle disease outbreak in a commercial poultry farm in Rio Grande do Sul, leading to a 90-day phytosanitary emergency. This emergency, aimed at enhancing epidemiological surveillance and eradication procedures, has resulted in suspensions of poultry exports to China, Argentina, the European Union, and other countries. However, thermo-processed poultry products exports to Argentina, South Africa, and Chile are still authorized. The ordinance also outlines strict inspection procedures to be followed by slaughterhouses.
