Moldova reoriented plum exports from the CIS to the EU

The season of the most active (autumn) plum sales is coming to an end in Moldova. According to the forecast of Moldovan fruit growers' organizations, in November the export of these fruits is unlikely to exceed 10 thousand tons. According to the Customs Service of Moldova, last month the volume of external supplies amounted to almost 23 thousand tons, for the period July-October 2023 - almost 74 thousand tons (worth more than $38 million, average invoice price $0.52/kg). In December-January, Moldova usually exports no more than 1 thousand tons of plums, even in seasons with high yields and warehouse stocks of products, EastFruit reports. It can be assumed that plum exports in the 2023-24 marketing year will be a maximum of 85 thousand tons. This is a good result, taking into account that in 2022-23 MY the country exported just over 37 thousand tons (about $19 million, $0.51/kg), in 2021-22 MY – just over 52 thousand tons (about $25 million , $0.48/kg).
