As Ramadan approaches, cotton prices in Morocco have increased due to heightened demand, says Bouazza El Kharati, President of the Moroccan University for Consumer Rights. Conversely, the prices of chickpeas and lentils have dropped due to an oversupply. Imported chickpeas from India are now 19.5 dirhams per kilogram, down from 23-24 dirhams, and lentils from Canada are 14.5-15 dirhams per kilogram. However, local lentils are more expensive, at 25-27 dirhams per kilogram, due to decreased production.
