The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics reported a 0.6% increase in the general consumer price index for May 2021, with an annual inflation rate of 4.9%. This increase is due to a rise in the prices of fruits, vegetables, fish and seafood, private transportation, ready-made clothes, and calculated rent for housing, balanced by a decrease in meat and poultry prices. The food and beverages section saw a 1.3% increase, particularly in the prices of fruit, oils, fats, and other food products, while the prices of alcoholic beverages and smoke decreased by 0.1%. The transportation and communications department also saw an increase of 0.5%, driven by a 1.9% rise in private transportation costs and a 0.2% increase in telecommunication equipment prices.
