According to the European Commission's revised EU feed protein balance report from November 2022, the European Union has managed to maintain a stable self-sufficiency level of approximately 77% for all protein sources over the past three years. Despite this achievement, the EU's dependency on imports for meeting its protein requirements remains high, with an annual import of around 28 million tonnes of soybean meal. This highlights the ongoing challenge the EU faces in reducing its reliance on protein imports.
