Last year, 13.9 billion kg of milk was supplied by 14.3 thousand dairy farms and 1.6 million cows in the Netherlands, with 58 percent of the milk processed into cheese. Dutch dairy products had an export value of around 10 billion euros in 2023, contributing 7 percent to the Dutch trade balance, with three quarters of Dutch dairy traded within the European Union. Germany remains the most important export country, followed by Belgium and France, and the rest of the dairy products are exported to countries outside the European Union, with China, the United States, and the United Kingdom being the main importers.
