Morocco tops the list of watermelon exporters to Spain and France

Our Moroccan News - Abdelmoumen Haj Ali Morocco has proven itself as one of the largest exporters of watermelons during the past year, as despite the increasing competition from Senegal and Mauritania in this market, nearly two-thirds (65.35%) of Spanish imports of this fruit in 2023 were of Moroccan origin, a total of 78,500 tons of watermelons worth 52.36 million euros, with an average price of 0.67 euros per kilogram. The newspaper "Hortoinfo" quoted, according to the statistics department of the United Nations, Senegal (16.11%) and Mauritania (10.15%) ranked second and third respectively after Morocco, which also took the lead as the largest supplier of watermelons to France during the past year, with a volume of 121,910 tons, equivalent to a share of more than 45%, ahead of Spain (99,220 tons) and Mauritania (30,880 tons).
