The Mozambique Institute of Agricultural Research (IIAM) is investing in the transfer of sweet potato cultivation technology to increase productivity and food security. The institution recently trained over 100 farmers in Moamba district, Maputo province, on the cultivation of improved varieties of orange and purple-fleshed sweet potatoes. The training focused on new technologies and introducing varieties of the crop, essential for food security, especially in developing countries. The farmers learned the correct methods for producing sweet potatoes, from choosing the vines, soil management, irrigation, harvesting, post-harvesting treatment, and transportation.
