He pointed out that if systematically cultivated and yields are increased, the rice sufficiency of various states and regions will be improved. Currently, Chin State, Tanintharyi Region, Magway Region, Mandalay Region, Yangon Region, and Shan State have not yet achieved rice sufficiency and still face rice shortage issues.
The National Management Committee Chairman emphasized that if these states and regions can achieve their sufficiency targets, the rice sufficiency of all regions except Chin State and Mandalay Region will improve. If Myanmar-produced rice can be exported abroad with standard quality, it will increase foreign exchange earnings for the country. Therefore, we must strive to improve agricultural production efficiency.
The National Management Committee Chairman explained that in the 2022-2023 fiscal year, the total rainy season rice cultivation area was 17 million acres, with a net planting area of 15 million acres, a replanting area of 2.24 million acres, and intercropping area of 28,000 acres. Farmlands with only single-season rice cultivation throughout the year amount to 7.33 million acres. If replanting or crop rotation with other crops can be implemented on these lands, significant benefits will be achieved. Nationwide, approximately 20 million acres of farmland are cultivated with single-crop annually.
He finally emphasized: "We must ensure the inevitable success of agricultural development and promote economic endeavors based on cultivation and breeding, which will become a historic milestone for this government."
